Sparklike offers non-destructive insulating gas fill measurement devices for insulating glass units (IGUs). The right device depends on your glass construction, coatings, and how you want to integrate measurement into your production process. This FAQ answers the most common questions to help you find the right starting point.
What determines which device I need?
Three factors matter most:
- Glass construction – double-glazed (DGU) or triple-glazed (TGU)
- Coatings and lamination – uncoated, single low-e coated, multiple coatings, or laminated glass
- How you want to measure – handheld spot-checks, a portable unit you move around, or a station built directly into your IG production line
Can Sparklike Handheld NOVA™ measure my glass?
Sparklike Handheld NOVA™ uses plasma emission spectroscopy and is designed for double-glazed units with at most one low-e coating. It cannot measure laminated glass or triple-glazed units. If your production is limited to standard double-glazed IGUs with a single coated surface, the Handheld NOVA™ is a fast, portable option, delivering results in about 2 seconds with data storage for up to 30,000 measurements.

What if I produce triple-glazed, coated, or laminated units?
All Sparklike Laser™ devices are based on TDLAS (Tuneable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy) and measure double- and triple-glazed units, including coated and laminated glass. This applies across the whole Laser™ line:
The difference between them is not measurement capability, but how the device is deployed.
How Sparklike Laser Technology Advances Insulating Glass Processing
What’s the difference between the Laser™ devices?
- Sparklike Laser Portable™ is a movable, standalone unit. It suits production floors, laboratories, on-site checks, or post-installation inspections, and it performs per-cavity gas analysis along with cavity dimension and glass thickness measurement.
- Sparklike Laser Integrated™ is a fully automated station built directly into the IG production line. It provides continuous, real-time gas concentration verification with no manual handling, supporting high-volume production and early detection of filling deviations.
- Sparklike Laser Components™ is a modular solution: Sparklike supplies the core TDLAS measurement technology, electronics, and software, while the customer handles the mechanical movement system and integration into their own IG line. This offers a lower-investment path to automated, inline measurement compared to a fully integrated station.

I’m not sure which one fits. What should I do?
Tell us a bit about your production, for example:
- Do you produce triple-glazed units, or only double-glazed?
- Is your glass coated (how many coated surfaces) or laminated?
- Are you looking for a handheld device, a portable laser unit, or an automated/integrated line solution?
Based on your answers we can suggest the closest fit as a starting point. Our specialists will then confirm the exact configuration for your needs.
