Introducing Sparklike Handheld NOVA™: A New Generation of Non-Invasive Gas Measurement for Double-Glazed Units

Sparklike introduces Sparklike Handheld NOVA, the next generation non-destructive gas measurement device for double-glazed insulating glass units.

Handheld NOVA replaces Sparklike Handheld 3.0 and represents a complete renewal of the device’s structure and software architecture while maintaining the same proven spark emission spectroscopy technology.

Why Renewal Was Necessary

Over the past years, insulating glass production has become increasingly data driven. Quality control is no longer limited to occasional verification it requires traceability, documentation, and integration into production systems.

While Handheld 3.0 provided fast and reliable gas measurement, its architecture had reached the end of its development cycle. The previous structure did not allow:

  • QR-code-based traceability
  • Wireless data transfer
  • Modernized user experience
  • Scalable software development

To meet current and future production requirements, a structural redesign was required. Handheld NOVA is built on that new foundation.

What Stays the Same

The proven spark emission spectroscopy (PES) technology remains unchanged.

  • Non-destructive measurement
  • Reliable argon concentration verification
  • Approximate 2-second measurement time
  • Measurement through glass without breaking the seal

For customers, this means continuity in measurement reliability and accuracy. The technology is approved by ASTM E2649-20 Standard Test Method for Determining Argon Concentration in Sealed Insulating Glass Units Using Spark Emission Spectroscopy

What Is New

Handheld NOVA introduces a fully updated structure and software environment designed for daily production use.

Key Enhancements

  • Modernized software for improved usability
  • Wireless data transfer
  • QR-code-based unit traceability
  • Single and multisample measurement modes
  • User-configurable PASS/FAIL limits
  • Redesigned industrial structure

These upgrades enable smoother integration into modern quality control processes and support more efficient documentation and traceability. An extended warranty is available for purchase with the device.

Production Use

Handheld NOVA is designed for daily quality control of double-glazed insulating glass units, including:

  • Units with one low-e coating (measurement through clear side)
  • Certain thin laminated structures under defined conditions

The device remains portable and battery-operated. Measurements are non-destructive, and verified units remain usable after testing.

What This Means for Existing Handheld 3.0 Users

Handheld NOVA replaces Handheld 3.0 going forward.

Existing Handheld 3.0 devices remain supported and can continue normal operation, including annual calibration. Read more about why calibrate Sparklike device.

For manufacturers requiring enhanced traceability and wireless data transfer, NOVA provides the updated solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does NOVA use the same measurement technology?

Yes. Handheld NOVA uses the same spark emission spectroscopy technology as previous generations.

How fast is the measurement?

A single measurement takes approximately 2 seconds.

What gases can it measure?

Argon as standard. Krypton measurement is available as an option.

Can it measure through low-e coating?

Yes, if measurement is performed through the clear glass pane.

Is the measurement destructive?

No. Measurement does not damage the unit and the unit can be used afterwards.
